There is a short prayer that almost instantly comes into my mind when I am exposed to a stressful situation. The Prayer for Serenity that goes “Lord, grant me serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference”. A very short prayer, yet it gives many solutions to help me face my anxieties.

Try this simple prayer as your guide to anxiety help. Believe me, it works!

Try to assess the situation; is it beyond your power to control? Maybe what’s stressing you out is the thought that, if you could have done something, if you could have given the person a chance, or if you just tried your friend’s advice, things would have been different. The many “if only” can give you a lifelong depression, full of frustrations and regrets. Learn to have the serenity to accept the things you cannot change. Let go.

But we are not always powerless. Most of the time, we have the ability to change the situation or the things around us, things that make us strive harder, be stronger, things that make us fight back. When these trying times come, analyze… what is the best solution? Develop the courage in you, make a move, and take control of the situation. Nature works in wonders; even animals adapt and help themselves to survive. We human beings are the superior form of life, with more reason we can develop strategies and techniques, evolve… to rise against all odds. The best form of anxiety help… Have Courage. Don’t allow yourself to be drowned.

Finally, discern the things, the situation that causes you anxieties. Some occur over and over, while others are new to us that we fail to rationalize. Determine which situation can be controlled? Which are you powerless to change? If you have learned to do this on a daily basis, even with little things and simple situations, you might not notice it but you could have the wisdom. To be able to identify the things you can change and the things you cannot is not simple. But when you learn to do this, it is a very good anxiety help.

These are my very own basic anxiety help. It has done wonders for me. Maybe it could do the same for you. There are also many other ways to help yourself free from anxiety attacks. Always think that no man is an island, reach out for others, ask for support, or give support. It will greatly help if you hear others, sharing the same burdens you have, and realize that they have tried adaptive ways to control their anxieties in the same situations. Another form of anxiety help is so simple that we forget it works in many ways…relax! Don’t overstress yourself. Life is too short to live it all in misery. Then again, the simple things in life are so difficult to do. If everything comes out of hand, If your anxieties manifest in ways that calls for medical or professional concern, don’t hesitate to admit it, consult a therapist.

The best way to find the right anxiety therapy, according to psychologists is to determine first the root cause. What are the things that almost always stress you out? Is it your job? What about your relationship with others? Maybe you’re accumulating unpaid bills. Some hardships in life are persistent, that they create a great deal of stress. Research shows that counseling can help short-term anxiety disorders.

We might not notice it, but sometimes we are moving so fast, thinking so many things at a time, worrying too much, that we fail to exhale and just relax. Self- help is the most basic form of anxiety therapy. Always find time to recreate and unwind, taking a slow motion once in a while could surprisingly help reduce your daily anxieties. When it comes to treating anxiety, there are two main methods that can be used. The first is medication and the second and most popular method is psychotherapy. It will all depend upon the severity of the anxiety as to which treatment method is actually used. If the sufferer has extreme anxiety that is affecting their everyday life, then medication will often be needed. However, most doctors will aim to treat anxiety through psychotherapy alone. This is because all kinds of issues are introduced when medication is taken, including dependency on the drugs and potential side effects.

Using Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy, or counseling as it is more commonly referred to, is the first step to treating anxiety. Addressing why you are suffering with anxiety and what triggers it, counseling helps you to understand the anxiety before it is treated. It is difficult to treat any condition without knowing its cause. So the first step is to recovery is to discover what makes you anxious and why.

Once the root of the problem is found, you will then be given exercises that will help you to control the condition. So if you suffer panic attacks because of the anxiety for example, you will be often be given breathing exercises to do the next time you recognize the symptoms of a panic attack. Counseling helps you to train the mind to react differently to certain situations. Whilst anxiety is not always completely eliminated, it can be controlled successfully through understanding and mind training.

Anxiety Medication

Medication is the last resort when it comes to treating anxiety. It is given in severe cases and it is usually only given for a short period of time. Designed to relieve anxiety by blocking various signals to the brain, medication can also act as a sleep aid too. Many sufferers find that they have trouble sleeping and that in turn can make the problem worse. So some types of medication enable better sleep.

Common anxiety drugs include Benzodiazepines which are usually only taken for up to a month. They can cause nasty side effects such as blurred vision and dizziness, but many anxiety sufferers find them extremely helpful in the short term. All anxiety medications are only given for a short period of time because there is also the danger of dependency. Overall anxiety medication should only be given in severe cases and ideally it will be combined with psychotherapy to solve the long term anxiety problem.

Potential Problems

There are potential problems that can occur when treating anxiety. The main one is that some people who are anxious a lot of the time often turn to alcohol or drugs to numb the feeling. Substance misuse can affect anxiety treatments, especially anxiety medication. Alcohol in particular is a depressant and it often makes the problem worse. So if you are having trouble with alcohol or drugs then this needs to be addressed before nay treatment is diagnosed.

Overall treating anxiety is easy once you understand the root of the problem. Counseling is the best form of treatment, but medication is sometimes needed in the short term. The best anxiety treatment is natural treatments that involve breathing and meditation.
